Nandi

Nandi

The gate- guardian deity of Kailasa, the abode of Shiva. He is usually depicted as a bull which also serves as the mount to the god Shiva. A nandi is found outside every shiva temple.

Across a lot of cultures around the world, wall motifs / masks are commonly observed. They sometimes represent mythical creatures, beings, stories about Gods etc. I am fascinated with mythologies around the world. Stories that put us in an inferior light. Makes us believe that there are beings more powerful than us, much more capable, much more idealistic and pure. They depict the villains more evil and selfish than we can possibly imagine. With this they make us humble, introspective and makes us believe in magic of some kind. I take some iconic original forms and modify them into a style of my own. To recreate the stories in a contemporary setting.
